Once you are in an accident, you know that it will be a long, tedious process in getting the car fixed. First, you have to make the insurance claim, then you have to research collision repair shops, and then you have to take the time to get it fixed. It may seem like a large task to find the right auto body shop for your repairs, but it is simpler than you think as long as you are prepared.

The first step you will want to take in getting your car fixed is to file an insurance claim. This is the only way that you will be able to get insurance money to cover your auto collision repair costs. Your insurance company may also require you to use an auto body repair shop that is approved by them. If this is the case, you will want to obtain this list from the insurance company, and follow the same steps that you would to find any other auto body repair shop to do work on your vehicle.

Whether you have a list to work from, or you are working to find an auto body shop on your own, you will want to see if you can get any references from friends and family. They will be able to give you an honest account of what they went through, and whether the company is worth working with.

Next, you will want to take a look at any warranties on your car or car parts. Make sure that any auto body repair shop that you choose with honor these warranties. Many reputable companies will display their warranty information. And while you are looking for this display, you will also want to look to see if the auto body shop displays their prices. Many jobs that are flat rates should be displayed, along with the rate per hour for custom jobs. This is the best way to calculate how much an estimate would be from the shop.

While you are looking around at the shop, take notice of the whole place. Check to see if any certifications are displayed. While these items do not guarantee a good business with the company, it will usually help. You will also want to look around to see how well organized the place it. This will help when it comes to the billing side of the deal. You will also want to pay attention to how busy the place is. The more business they get, the better the shop, although this may be a deterrent if you need fast repairs.

If you can, you will also want to start small. Check the place out first by getting an oil change or another small repair on your car. Then, if you like the service that you get, you can make an appointment to get the larger body work done. Once you have found a good auto body repair shop, stick with it for future jobs so that mechanics can get to know your car and how it runs.
