The word on the street is that health care and prescription medicines are expensive! Unfortunately it's gotten so bad that many families cannot afford it and many who can afford can only do so by making sacrifices on other of life's necessities like food. The good news is that there is some relief available for those who qualify with the introduction of prescription discount cards.

These Prescription Discount Cards can be a God send for those who can't afford health insurance. The cards allow the user to purchase prescription medications at a significant discount allowing the user to purchase prescriptions they may not otherwise have been able to afford. This is all do to a well orchestrated relationship between these third party companies and the pharmacies.

The best part about these discount cards is that they are often times free. I know, I know, if its free how great can it be? Well fear not free doesn't have to mean its worthless. These companies know that their target market is generally lower income and can't or won't join a costly membership so they take that into account.

Not to fear as these companies have done a great service to the down trodden by scoring some huge prescription discounts. In fact it's not unheard of to find some of the prescription meds reduced by as much as 75%. Easy there cowboy that's the more exceptional discounts, but even the lesser discounted drug prices can be significant.

To give you an idea how great a savings this could be for you let's just say your prescription normally costs you $100 and you find that your new prescription discount card can save you 75% on that same prescription you'd now only have to pay $25! And the only thing you had to do differently was to use your new card which probably cost you nothing to acquire!

While not all prescriptions will qualify for such a steep discount many will. When you're on a tight budget every little bit helps.You're probably ready to sign up now, but it's important to dig a little deeper to make sure you're making the best choice for your health and your wallet.

The first thing to realize is that these are not health insurance programs. Many people mistakenly assume they are because having a health card is equated with having health insurance. They are vastly different.

A personal health insurance plan entitles you to many things such as doctor visits, hospital stays and emergency room visits plus much more. A prescription discount cards purpose is not nearly so broad. It's one and only goal is to save you money on your prescription drug purchases, but don't sell that benefit short, it can save you a ton of money.

You will also need to check and make sure that you are eligible for the discount. Some cards are only provided to subgroups of the population like senior citizens. Others are provided to everyone.

below is a short list of cards you can start with:

* Together RX Card

* GlaxoSmithKline Orange Card

* LillyAnswers Card

* Novartis Care Card

* Pfizer Share Card

There are many others to look into as providing prescription discount cards to those who need them is very important. You might need just one of these discount cards or you might need to get a few.

Drug companies and those related to drug companies are often coming out with their own cards that place restrictions on the medication it covers. So, if you have to take a few different prescriptions you might have to get a discount card for each of them.

Now if you find you don't qualify for one of the various prescription discount cards whether that's due to age, income or even the fact you're in a different country don't despair as there are still some options available to you. For instance there are other sites online that promote online pharmacy distributor sites such as HealthCritiques.com who happen offer up a nice 10 percent 4rx discount coupon code for free. Xlpharmacy is another site they promote and in some cases these sites offer online drugs without prescription though I would always recommend that you never buy prescription meds anywhere without a doctors prescription.

Hopefully at least one of the prescription discount cards I've already mentioned will meet your needs, but if not checkout the other resources mentioned in this article. With the high cost of prescription drugs these days it can be hard to afford them even if you're in the middle class. Still with a little research and some persistence you should be able to find something that fits your needs and offers at least some sort of discount. There is no need with all the offers out there to ever have to pay full price.
