If you are looking for insurance for your home, you may be confused at what to get. There is property insurance and homeowners insurance. Is there really any difference between the two? Is it possible that you may have to insure the land your home is on?
Let's get some clarification on these two terms before moving on.
Homeowners insurance covers the things you would want to replace if you lost them. Obviously, this would be your house and the things in your house that you have lost in a catastrophe. Many people think that the term property insurance refers the the ground your home is on, but it actually has the same meaning as homeowners insurance.
So, homeowners and property insurance are the same thing. There is no need to insure your dirt. With that in mind, it is important to think about what does need to be insured and take a good look at everything you own. Then, you need to do a pricing on everything so you can tell an agent how much it is all worth. You may not like doing this, but it can be well worth it in the end.
So, how exactly can you figure out the cost of your home? I highly recommend you talk to a real estate agent. This can be a very confusing task to accomplish without the help of a professional. If you lose your home, you will most likely want to be able to rebuild on the land you own, therefore, you need to have coverage for that.
There aren't too many people who understand homeowners insurance. In fact, for a long time, I didn't understand one bit of it. The problem with that is that I didn't have the coverage I needed. There are too many people like that in the world and it is important to learn more about your policy.
Video cameras and still cameras can be great tools to helping you with getting a good amount of what is owed to you in case you lose everything. Just think what it would be like to have lost everything you own, but you have a recorded picture of all of those things to quickly give to your insurance agent.
Who really wants to do some shopping for homeowners insurance? I don't know anyone that does, but everyone has to at some point or another. No, property insurance is not different from homeowners insurance, but you will find companies that try to promote it that way to get bigger buyers. Shop around and take your time when making a big decision with insurance.
