Well, in both cases, valet parking attendant might be just what you're looking for.

Why? For one thing, the money is pretty good. You won't get rich, but you should make a very healthy hourly income most of the time. Valet parking is one of those jobs where it's pretty much expected for the person to tip you. You should get a tip for just about every car you park or retrieve. In bad weather, you'll make even more. In addition, you'll be getting an hourly wage.

Another reason is atmosphere. Who wants to be tied down inside a factory or retail business when you can be out meeting people, making them happy, and collecting cash the same day? You'll be working at fancy restaurants, museums, charity balls, weddings, etc. And people will be glad to see you!

Another big reason is flexibility. With a lot of valet services, you can choose what days you want to work. Got a date? Don't work that night. Your son has a big Little League game coming up? Take the weekend off. This is one of the best parts of the job.

What does it take to get a job in this industry? Well, first, you've got to have a very good driving record. People will be trusting you with their cars, and your employer will want to make sure you know what you're doing before you get the job. So if you've had a couple fender benders, you're probably out of luck. Same thing for traffic violations. But if your record is clean, you're in great shape.

You'll need to look nice. I'm not talking about being really gorgeous or handsome, but a professional look. Sorry, but facts are facts, and if you're really fat and out of shape, the valet company probably won't want you representing them with the public. Also, if you walk in to apply for a job covered with tattoos, you're probably wasting your time. Sorry, but that's just how it is. But if you're in pretty good shape, and don't look like you just got fired from the circus, you'll be fine.

Preferably, you should be a non smoker. It goes without saying that you won't be smoking on the job, but many companies won't hire you at all if you use tobacco. People are very finicky when it comes to their cars, and they notice strange odors right away. And drugs? Let's not even go there.

But if you're clean cut, don't smoke, and have a clean record, you should definitely consider a job as a valet parking attendant. Forget flipping burgers and beating up your car delivering pizzas - get out there and park some cars and make some cash!
