Advantages of Stereo Microscope in Modern Scientific Processes

Microscopes are the most important devices of the laboratories. The microscopes are very much helpful in the fields of the research laboratories as well as the scientific laboratories. There are various kinds of the complicated devices that are used in the laboratories but the use of the microscopes makes the work very easy. There are also the various kinds of the microscopes like the simple and the compound microscope.

The microscopes are available in the market in various designs. Some of the microscopes are for pathological purpose and for the educational purpose as well. There are also some of the important points that should be considered while buying the microscopes. The quality of the microscope should be tested firstly. The magnification and the clarity should be very much considered.

The invention of the microscope is said to be done by Han Janssen and Zacharias Janssen according to the Dutch envoy. Galileo Galilee developed the compound microscope with the use of the convex and the concave lenses. The stereo technology started with the movie industry. It was in the sixty’s that the use of the 3D stereo technology started and with that the stereo microscope also came into being. stereo produces the 3D image of the object. It has two independent light paths and two eyepieces that help in forming the 3D image.

The stereo microscope eliminates the disadvantage of any other microscope. There was a disadvantage in the other microscope that people were having problem in keeping one eye closed. Therefore such a problem was effectively eliminated by the stereo microscope that did not allow one eye to be closed as it had two eyepieces.

Having two eye pieces the stereo microscope is always over the conventional microscope. Many of the stereo microscopes also have the rubber eye guards and it also has the zoom lens feature that makes it a distinct microscope. One of the other most important feature of the stereo microscope is it has a dual illuminator system.

The use of the digital microscope is also increasing over the last few years. There is also one type of the digital microscope that is plugged in the projectors as well as the television. The digital microscope is very much important in the fields of education and science.

Curiosity Rover lands on Mars

NASA opened a new chapter in the history of interplanetary exploration with its $2.5 billion nuclear-powered robot known as Curiosity Rover. This mobile lab can be described as the biggest rover ever sent to Mars and the successful landing has been done by lowering this six-wheeled vehicle gently with the help of a rocket-powered sky crane. The success of this mission was confirmed when the Curiosity Rover started sending images back to the earth. The rover is fully equipped with an array of advanced geology and chemistry instruments capable of analyzing samples of rocks, soils and the atmosphere of Mars. It is being run with the help of an automatic pilot with pre-programmed set of instructions.

The American Revolution

The American Revolution took place in end of the 18th century. This revolution consisted of thirteen colonies in North America that wanted to break free from the British Empire.

The revolution began with the Americans being overtaxed. Tired of being taxed without representation in the British Parliament, the colonists banded together and rejected the authority of Great Britain. They called the first meeting the Continental Congress and followed this declaration by expelling the royal officials. By 1774, each colony had its own congress that managed the affairs of that region.

Determined to squash the rebellion, King George III sent combat troops to reimpose British rule. Determined to be a free and independent nation, the colonists formed the Second Contenintal Congress and formed militia groups. In 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Congress adopted it officially on July 4. This was the beginning of the United States of America.

Beginning an armed conflict with Britain was challenging, but France and Spain provided supplies and ammunition to the revolutionaries. The British Royal Navy began troop movements by capturing New York City. While the colonists were able to control the countryside, they were no match for the navy. The British army tried to defeat the colonists inland, but were defeated numerous times. The first major victory for the colonists was the Battle of Saratoga.

While Great Britain was confident in their ability to defeat the colonists in a battle, they were not matched for several reasons. The British army wore brightly colored uniforms that were easy to spot and they also marched in formation when traveling. The colonists spread out and hit behind trees, knowing that any army would have difficulty seeing them. Also, Great Britain was fighting on a foreign land. The British soldiers were not motivated, leading Great Britain to hire German soldiers also known as Hessians. The colonists, on the other hand, were determined to win their independence and fought fiercely.

After their victory at Saratoga, France openly entered the war and threatened to invade Great Britain. Spain also became more involved in the revolution and drove the British army from Florida. Trying to win a war on three fronts was disastrous for Great Britain and they were losing the war. A siege outside of Chesapeake Bay forced the British army to surrender in 1781 at Yorktown, Virginia. While fighting continued through 1782, the official conflict ended in 1781. The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783. This effectively ended the American Revolution and recognized the United States as being a free and independent nation.

The American Revolution marks an important time in the history of the United States. Although this revolution only involved the 13 original colonies, the Declaration of Independence formed the basis for all proceeding state documents. This was also the first time that the colonists had their own representatives and leaders, without any outside influences. While the American Revolution took place over a very short period of time, it was a critical part in American history and is still remembered today.

Scientists may have discovered a New Moon orbiting Pluto

The recently declared dwarf planet Pluto has yet another space news to tell us. It has been observed by a team of astronomers having a new moon orbiting it. These astronomers have seen this discovery using the NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. They added that Pluto’s new moon, the fifth in the list with the designated name P5, is seen as irregular in shape and may be 6 to 15 miles in diameter. The detection of Pluto’s fifth moon was noted in nine different sets of images taken by the Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3. Date of detection were from the 26th of June till the 29th and then again on July 07 and July 09. The said moon, orbits its mother planet Pluto in a 58,000 mile-diameter.

The Pluto astronomers were amazed and intrigued all at the same time about this space news. They were intrigued how such a dwarf planet like Pluto can have intricate collection of moons. This new discovery will help astronomers and scientists in discovering how Pluto came to be as well as the evolutions that it underwent. Many theories have been drawn about how Pluto’s moons came to be but the favorite theory explains that all of Pluto’s moons are remnants of the Kuiper Belt and Pluto Collision billions of years ago. Kuiper Belt is a vast section past the orbit of Neptune. It is said to contain thousands among thousands of other dwarf planets.

Not only that, scientists also believed that this new discovery will help them in their planned historic flyby in Pluto in July of 2015. The Pluto team is utilizing the Hubble to search the Pluto system of any potential threat that the New Horizon spacecraft may encounter on its way. One threat being feared is that it may crush or collide with orbital debris once it flies by Pluto. The discovery will also help them design and create a safer path for the New Horizon spacecraft.
In older space news delivered, Pluto’s other moons were named, Charon, Hydra, Nix, and P4, Charon being the largest moon of Pluto. It was discovered through observations done at the United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. in 1978. While in 2006, Hubble observations unveiled two more small moons for Pluto, Nix and Hydra. 2011 yielded the discovery of the fourth moon named P4.

The years following the New Horizon’s Pluto flyby are deemed to be promising and will bring about more exciting space news about Pluto. It will travel longer than any spacecraft ever did to reach their target destination which was approximated to be 9 ½ years. The New Horizon spacecraft was sent in space in 2006. It has been labeled as NASA’s fastest spacecraft having the speed of 36,000 mph (nearly 58,000 kph).

Astronomers and scientists are planning to use the Hubble’s successor, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, for further studies and observations of dwarf planet Pluto. With the Webb Telescopes, infrared eye, it will be capable of doing surface chemistry measurement of Pluto as well as its moons and other bodies in the Kuiper belt. It can also help in discovering if Pluto has other unseen moons. This will be the first exploration of the dwarf planet Pluto and more surprises are expected from this lonely dwarf planet.

History behind 4th of July Celebrations

Today is the 4th Of July. Elsewhere in the world, it may be the date associated with significant or insignificant events and happenings. However, for the United States Of America, this day and date marks an occasion which is of utmost significance to the Americans. This was the day back in the turbulent year of 1776 when the 13 colonies of America, under the leadership of Thomas Jefferson and other greats, officially declared themselves to be independent from the rule of Britain. It was on the 4th of July when the historic document ‘The Declaration Of Independence‘ was finally approved by the Second Continental Congress.

The origins of the affair can be rooted to the resolution moved by noted statesman Richard Henry Lee in June 1776. In his resolution, Lee had urged the 13 colonies to separate legally from the British reign in the country. Accordingly, on 2nd of July, the Second Continental Congress comprising of John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin and Jefferson began to revise over the original resolution. The historic document was then drafted by the likes of Jefferson, John Adams and Franklin. It was finalized on the 4th of July and this was the day which was subsequently termed as the Independence Day for the country.

Over the years, the real integrity of the historical records has been futilely debated. Historians have questioned if this was indeed the day when the document had been approved. However, soon, people have begun to believe the day as the official Independence Day. A century and a half later after the event, the government of the country declared the 4th of July as an office holiday for the countrymen. The proud Americans celebrate this grand occasion by attending fairs, cultural events like celebrity performances, feasts, cultural programs and more. There are also rousing speeches and lectures dedicated to the history of the event.

The Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest is full of life, with sounds of all kinds, water rushing and falling, and animals communicating with one another. It’s a busy place where animals are looking for food, trying to survive, and looking to expand their families. Within the Amazon Rainforest in South America, exists a tiny animal, which is almost completely camouflaged from the rest of the animals…except for one small body part: bright red eyes!

This animal is the Red-Eyed Tree Frog, which lives deep in the tall trees within in the Amazon. Although they reside mostly in South America, they can also be found in Central America, and even in parts of Mexico.

On this adult frog, you will find bright colors all over its body! The main color is green, but you will also find a mix of yellow, orange, and/or blue. The Red-Eyed Tree Frog can actually change its color based on it’s feelings. Its color can change from green to reddish-brown color. On it’s toes are suction cups that help the tree frog attach itself to its environment. They give the Tree Frog traction to stay put on wet leaves. Their legs are built better for climbing than for swimming. They are almost never on the ground. They keep jumping around at a steady pace from tree to tree. Unlike most humans, the males are actually smaller than the females.

The females can be about three inches long, while the males reach only about two inches.

The Red-Eyed Tree Frog is a carnivore. Similar to other frogs, the Tree Frog eats grasshoppers, moths, and other insects. It eats smaller frogs too! It is known to eat almost anything that can fit into it’s mouth!

Most people find it fascinating to know that the red-eye helps these frogs survive. In fact, the red-eyes scare other animals easily and help these frogs escape from their predators. With their greenish skin color, they tend to blend in with their surroundings. When they sleep, they are virtually invisible. However, if other animals see them and try to attack, the Red-Eyed Tree Frog will open its wide, red eyes and the predators, usually snakes, birds, or bats, will instantly run away. Or they will be confused for a moment, giving the Red-Eyed Tree Frog enough time to get away.

You might be wondering how this vivid, colorful frog can be camouflaged when its skin color contains yellow, orange, and blue. The Red-Eyed Tree Frog is mainly a darkish green skin color. It often stays on leaves that match its color. The other bright colors lie underneath on its belly. In addition, the Tree Frog has the ability to tuck in its orange toes.

The Red-Eyed Tree Frog is an interesting animal, and even though it is fairly small, it has many different characteristics to hide itself from others. Its green body acts as camouflage and its red eyes scare off unwanted guests.

Its predators are extremely deadly, but this clever animal uses its powers to try to avoid its enemies.

What would be a better title for this selection?

Answer Choices:

1) The Amazing Red-Eyed Tree Frog

2) The Animals of the Amazon Rainforest

3) Where to Find the Amazon Rainforest
