You wouldn't know you're already alcoholic until you have to be sent to a rehabilitation center, and this is because you you are enjoying too much drinking. But enjoyment, no matter how it makes you happy, can always be dangerous. Here are some signs to know when you're already in a risky situation.
When you don't even need friends, and you don't need an environment with many people drinking, but still choose to drink, and alone at that - you may be an alcoholic. Drinking alone is no laughing matter. It shows how much you want to drink so badly.
If you're young and you're not allowed to drink yet you still drink, that may be a sign of alcoholism. For example, you always skip going to school and you go to some place to drink with anybody or alone. This means that rules don't matter to you anymore, just having your fix of alcohol.
Another sign of alcohol dependence is that you make up reasons why you believe you function better with alcohol. For instance, you can't go to work or do anything without drinking alcohol. You may even believe that alcohol functions like a vitamin supplement for you. You know most of your reasons really have no logical basis, but you still have them because you need them to justify your alcohol addiction.
You have no time to drink during work or school, yet you sneak somewhere else and secretly drink. When you do such things, then you're definitely an alcoholic.
When you start to develop alcoholism, it's hard for people not to notice the changes in you. Pretty soon, people who care about you will confront you about it. If you get furious or hate them because of it, then that's another sign you're already an alcoholic. It means you're ready to put your alcohol dependence over people who deeply care for you.
When you develop poor eating habits, and feel that any kind of food is no longer appetizing, especially when you think that alcohol would be better consumed than meals three times a day - you may be an alcoholic.
When you feel like slacking off more than you think you are allowed to, when you are too lazy to even take a bath, and especially when you neglect taking care of yourself, forgetting about proper grooming and hygiene because you are too excited and enamored with the thought of drinking - you may be an alcoholic.
When in the morning you tremble, shiver and shake because you feel too weak without alcohol intake - you may be an alcoholic.
You may deny it like every alcoholic does, but acceptance alone is already a sacrifice that is worth a better life.
