In the hot weather of summer time, one of the most fun activities that children love is to go swimming. Sometimes we will have a pool in our own back yard, but other times we will take our kids to some other venue to swim. It can be a lake, a river, a creek, or a public swimming pool. It does not matter where they swim as long as they are able to splash and play the day away in the water some where.

One of the most popular places to go swimming these days are at the huge water parks that have popped up all over the country in recent years. They have every kind of slide that you can imagine. They have different size pools with all sots of water features that make them so enjoyable. They might even have a pool that has waves that simulate what it feels like to play at the beach. Take a kid to a water park for the day and you will be loved for days afterward.

As much fun as water parks can be, they also have the possibility of injury especially for children who are not supervised well. There will always be life guards on duty, but as parents it is our responsibility to make sure that our kids play safely. It can be tempting to allow your kids to run free with wild abandon because you will probably see so many other parents allowing that very thing. While the kids are there to have fun and they should, just remember to take a few precautions.

Make sure the area of the water park your child is in is age appropriate for them. Some slides and twisty lubes will be too risky for small kids. Pay attention to height requirements if there is no one on duty at a slide. If you think it is too risky or scary for your child, then chances are it probably is. There are often large ladders and steps to climb and even big kids should pay attention and be careful when ascending up to a slide.

In any pool area, make sure your small children wear arm floats if they are more comfortable with them on even in shallow water. If you must go to the restroom or concession stand, take your kids with you if you have no one else to watch them while you are gone. This is to keep them from having an accident while you are gone and also to protect against being taken by someone else. We sometimes think our kids are safe when there are so many more around, but actually in busy places like amusement parks are places where children can easily go missing.
