Pot Limit Omaha is one of the most popular poker games played in both casinos and in online poker rooms. Some of the larger tournaments held in Europe feature this type of poker several times a year. Although it is played in the US, it is played more often in Europe. The pot limit variety of Omaha is a game of skill in which you always must have you mind on the basic concepts of the game. You should use a balance of bluffs and partial bluffs along with being able to calculate the pot odds in order to be successful. The pre-flop and flop rounds of betting are the most important ones. While the turn and the river cards are important to the game itself, they do not necessarily play a large part in your success or failure.

Most Omaha players do not fold before the flop. This is because you have four hole cards with which you can make winning hands and this plays a large part in your decision to fold after you do see the flop. You do need a strong hand in order to win the pot. The fact that more players stay in the Omaha game decreases your chances of winning because you have more competition right from the beginning. When the players combine the cards in the flop with what they hold in their hands, there is a greater likelihood that they have strong cards, such as a straight or a full house and of course, they will hold on to the cards and keep playing.

Your position at the table is not as important in Omaha as it is in Texas Hold em. This is because most players are in on the flop and this makes it hard to win a pot by being the last person to place a bet. In this game, the player who has the best hand is the winner. You do need to protect your good hand when playing this variation of the game by betting the size of the pot. You should make favourites until you are in a prime position to take the pot by going all in. In pot limit games, the size of pots increase quite quickly, so it may be possible for you to know at the flop how much you will have to bet to avoid being called at this time.

It is very rare for a player to raise or to bet more than the pot in pot limit. The only times when you might do this is when you are waiting for the river card and you only have one opponent remaining and you know that there is a sizeable pot. You can bet the amount that you believe will cause your opponent to call if you think you feel confident that you have the best hand.

It is important to be selective with your starting hand and only play the rounds in which you think you do have a leading edge. Don call unless it is necessary and respect big bets and raises. Most of the players in this game of poker rarely bluff.
