For instance, if a book has been considerably defaced then the price will be much lower than a book that still has its original jacket cover with it that has no rips or tears on it. If a book has pages that are yellowed and curved, then the same book will pages in better condition will be priced a bit higher. For the most part, bookstores will price their used books for what they feel they will be able to get out of them theoretically. However, some smaller used bookstores do still haggle with their customers from time to time about the selling prices of some of their used books, so do not be afraid to attempt this method either.
It is an asset to keep as many books as we can in circulation, so if you do not have anyone to give your books to, there are some ways to get rid yourself of them such as have a yard sale, donate them to charity, sell them to booksellers that will purchase used books, or simply donate them to your local used bookstore. You could also do what I do when I get a handful that I am unsure of what to do with and that is go by my local library and drop them down their return chute, because they give these types of books to an organization that is in need of reading material.
The majority of used books purchased actually have a new copy still available on the shelves at other retail stores, of course, for a much higher prices, but it seems as if individuals are becoming tired of paying these costly prices. With the growing demand for used bookstores in your community and via the Internet, consumers have found that paying top dollar for a book that you are going to read once and then give it away is nonsense.
