Kiva ladders or Wooden Indian log ladders are rustic accessories that work great for enhancing Native style in your home. While traveling or visiting the southwestern states you will undoubtedly notice that wooden log ladders are the most renown symbols of Native style artwork, used to create unique, rustic and southwest style home decorating.

Kiva ladders are decorative wood ladders usually created from pine poles that have been hand scraped. The ladder rungs are then fastened to the two long poles with rawhide string. The ladder is smaller at the top than it is at the bottom, adding a dimension of height.

One interesting way to incorporate the rustic look and feel in your room, without actually decorating with pueblo designs, is to use the same primitive style, pueblo ladder or kiva log ladder. The ladders will add a subtle but unmistakable pueblo or southwestern look in the area. A kiva ladder also creates a wonderful way to showcase a few of your favorite southwest rugs or Indian blankets.

Other home decor items that work well with decorative pueblo ladders are Mexican style blankets, Indian pottery and drums, hand made dough bowls and rustic lamps with rawhide lamp shades. Ladders can also be used to emphasize beautiful patterns you may like such as the tree of life pattern or other village designs.

The use of the kiva ladder as a way to display trinkets and nick-nacks will bring to life the southwestern style in your interior decorating, add eye catching colors, and make the ladder a functional part of your home decor.

There is something very beautiful about village style dwellings made of adobe bricks with their wooden ladders on the roofs. This shape has become an icon in southwestern decorating and style. Many homes in New Mexico and Arizona are designed after the early pueblo style, and the kiva ladder is always present.

You can find pueblo designs on rugs, dolls, pottery, paintings, art, and rustic furniture. And, the rustic log ladders have become popular in cabins, log homes and also anywhere people like native or southwestern style.

Use your imagination. There is no limit to how log ladders can be used. You can create a unique display or book shelf by using two ladders together and connecting them with boards in the middle. You most likely already have some throw rugs you can use and put a small table beside it or a Native Indian drum and you will create a one of a kind and eye catching design.

Some people also use kiva ladders to hang Indian blankets to wrap up in during those cool winter nights. You might use kiva ladders for hanging decorative blankets or afghans in your guest rooms when not in use.

Use kiva style Indian ladders in every room, in the same way or differently without it looking overly done. So, if you want a truly amazing Native style element to enhance your home decorating, think about using rustic Indian kiva ladders.
