The article is about lava lamps. It compares the lava lamp with a modern plasma lamp.
In the 1960s and 1970s the lava lamp were simply everywhere. It was one object I can clearly recall having great fondness for. They were made of wax and available in every possible color. The idea that there were simply so many colors which, seemed to be floating in the air was eye catching and could keep one involve for eternity. They had a particular relaxing touch about themselves which highlighted their harmlessness and fun.
Though these Lava Lamps have an old history but they are swirling back in fashion now. People belonging to the 60s and 70s buy it particularly because it reminds them of the gone old days. There is always something strangely soothing about them which tend to put one in a tranquil trance. If given a choice I might even go for one though it would hardly match up with the vaguely fashioned decoratives of today.
With the advancement in technology and the various inventions the Plasma lamps are getting increasingly popular. They are more scientific in nature but the Lava Lamps are a lot more personal. They give a feeling of being alive and possessing a spirit into them. Besides it also makes predicting the owner's personality a lot easier. Whatever color or style these lamps have says something unique about an individual's taste. Infact, coming to think of it, these lamps should be taken under a keen study by the various psychologists to carry out their research work. I am sure it will be of great help to them.
It is said that, Craven Walker, the inventor of the Lava Lamps accidentally stumbled upon these lamps once. But then almost all the great inventions in the world have been evolved through accidents. I am sure he could possibly have no idea that he would be creating a masterpiece.
Though lighting or lava lamps are meant for decoration but the warning label they carry has some special significance. Don't let the excitement to see it work take over you because patience is the key word. Once a guy out of curiosity and impatience couldn't wait long enough to let the lamp heat slowly and placed it on a stove to quicken the process. This made the glass bottle inside expand and explode piercing a piece right through his heart and causing his death. Thus, you need to be careful with them because as good as they may look they carry a slightly volatile air about them.
