Owners going through construction projects have to bear with a lot of hazards that go side-by-side with the job. They must take into careful consideration the safety and the potential risks to their workers, properties, renters and contractors hand in hand with the expenses of the job. The key word here is "safety", not "expenses".
Safety is very important in all kinds of construction jobs because the nature of their work naturally very hazardous. Many owners do not pay much attention to the safety of their workers because it adds to the construction cost, without thinking that any accidents will affect the construction cost even more than safety measures here and there would have. There must be a dedicated commitment to safety in the site.
Legally speaking, the contractor is obligated to abide to the safety laws in their workplace, having enough prudent foresight so there is very little safety policies and training that the owner needs to fulfill. The owner should require the contractor to record and enforce proper precautionary standards to the workers for their own good.
Contractors should also make the construction workers undergo safety training to further teach them how to deal with various situations in the field and how to make sure that they know the proper safety measures in the work place. If the contractor can prevent accidents, the overhead cost of the project decreases by a significant amount.
Safety training basically teaches the employees the needs of safety rules and policies and how to correctly implement them in their everyday work. Still, it's important for the owners to make the employees feel that safety training is a benefit on their part; it shouldn't feel forced or dictatorial, or else it might strain employer-employee relations. On the other hand, it is the law, and they have every right to dictate on their workers if the needs arises.
Safety training also helps the contractor keep track of the various problems that is present in the site. The workers are taught to recognize these problems and eliminate them. Safety training also helps these workers know how to deal with accidents should they happen, and what to do in emergency situations.
