The tradition of sending Christmas cards to our loved ones is dying out slowly. One of the reasons for people forgetting this tradition can be caused by the internet and faster mediums of communication that are available to us through the internet. Before the advent of the internet we used Christmas cards to let our loved ones know that we care. The postal department got really busy during the Christmas season and they were under great pressure until the seasonal mails were cleared.
This is not the case anymore, majority of us have moved away from using Christmas cards that are sent through post. We have started sending our seasonal greetings through Email. There are free online greetings that you can use and they reach people instantaneously. Emails and online Christmas wishes are both free and fast. You can customize your greetings including the wordings in the greetings. These are just some of the advantages of using emails to wish people for Christmas.
Telephone calls that are powered by the internet technology too have become cheap. International calls too have become unbelievably cheap. This is another reason why lot of people stopped using postal greetings and started calling their loved ones to wish for Christmas.
However, for some of us nothing can replace the traditional greeting cards in the same way we cannot replace certain traditions of Christmas such as decorating our houses with Christmas ornaments or putting out Christmas night lights or having a Christmas tree etc. If it is Christmas these elements should be there and without these Christmas cannot be meaningful or complete because we have grown up with these. Similarly, the tradition of Christmas cards too is part and parcel of Christmas celebrations.
Though emails and online greetings are fast and free, they lack a certain personal touch that is found in traditional Christmas cards. The whole process of shopping for Christmas cards, selecting the cards with special attention and adding a personal note that is written by hand all these give traditional Christmas cards a very personal dimension. We will miss all these sentimental values that are carried by a simple Christmas card. Wishes sent via emails do not excite people as much as receiving a Christmas card via post.
Some people make their own Christmas cards to make it highly personal. These handcrafted Christmas cards are all the more valuable than the colorful cards bought in the stores.
Never forget to send your loved ones a Christmas card as it carries and conveys more love than the impersonal emails. Many broken relationships have been mended through simple Christmas cards that was not possible through long emails or persistent phone calls. So it is good to hold on to some of these practices as they still have great value.
Make sure to pick a few Christmas cards this Christmas season along with your Christmas ornaments, Christmas night lights and gifts. When you do send your Christmas cards to your friends and relatives via post you can be sure of getting their Christmas wishes too via traditional Christmas cards and thus you would have revived a good practice amongst your circle of friends and relatives.
