Is Ą°betterĄ± always best when purchasing a Diamond ring?
The old guideline of three months salary is very difficult to apply in tough economic times.
Everyone should spend what they can afford and an amount that works for them.
What Diamond must one purchase?
The golden rule any time you are making this token of love purchase is to balance the amount of money you invest in the purchase. If one can imagine a scale with four sided arms instead of the conventional two sided scale, what the optimum diamond purchase would be is if the four arms of the scale are all in balance.
Let me expand on the above theory. You have heard of the 4CĄŻs when purchasing a Diamond. That stands for 1) Carat weight 2) Clarity 3) Color 4) Cut. Now letĄŻs transfer each one of the CĄŻs to the arms of this four sided scale I have been talking about in my previous paragraph with the dollar amount in the middle. If you are able to balance all four arms correctly then the purchase you make will be perfect. One should not spend the entire budget on one of the four CĄŻs as you will not be able to maximize your dollar and will end up with the best and smallest diamond.
The above theory works most of the time and is a great rule of thumb when making an educated diamond purchase. However, at times for example in todayĄŻs economic climate, one should compromise on one or two of the 4CĄŻs to obtain a diamond that is still beautifully sparkling eye clean but not necessarily the best in clarity and color. This way you will end up with the size and cut that everyone will still compliment you and your lady on, but the amount spent will not hurt your pocket and you will still be extremely happy.
The sensible compromise when purchasing your Diamond
So letĄŻs explain the compromise in detail. As we already know, the best Clarity of Diamond is an IF, and then VVS1. The irony is that even if you were to drop the clarity to a good SI2 the best diamond dealer and jeweler would not be able to tell the difference between the IF and the SI2 once the diamond is set and on your finger without looking at the engagement ring or diamond with a loop or scope.
The next compromise should be on Color. The best Color is D but the last white Color is H. Again, once the Diamond is set in the piece of diamond jewelry the experts would find it very difficult to tell the difference unless they were to remove the diamond and place it under a white lamp.
Result
Well the good news is none of the experts walk around looping diamonds and diamond jewelry in public nor can they carry the special white lamp around. So why not spend more on size, cut and polish. This compromise will enable you to spend way less money on your diamond purchase and still end up with a very beautiful diamond engagement ring.
This is the best way to save money for the wedding or anniversary and use the savings for your honeymoon or down payment on the house.
