Choosing the Right Internet Business
Of the thousands of Internet businesses that start each year, between 70% and 90% fail. This is because entrepreneurs do not put sufficient thought into the businesses they start. These aspiring tycoons of the World Wide Web are not doing their homework. They really want a booming Internet business, so they start up a website and wait for the money to start rolling in. Unfortunately, just starting up your own website does not make an Internet success story. Individuals inclined to become Internet business people need to take the time and trouble to research what will work and how to choose the right business for them. They need to be aware of the fact that they will be living with this business full time until they decide to sell it off or shut it down.
Are You Making the Right Choices for your Internet Business?
Most people spend about eight hours per day, five days per week at work. When you run your own business, Internet or brick and mortar, you devote far more time to it than that. You spend the majority of your life working with your business – your business needs to be as ideal a fit as possible for you. By way of a dramatic example, if you are a vegan who is deeply hurt and saddened to see any living thing put to death, it does not make sense for you to start a bacon-of-the-month club. The eighty hours you devote to your business each week would be torturous and you would despise your clientele. You need to choose a business that makes you look forward to your working hours, offering you a challenge at a function you excel at. Since your business is the bulk of your life, you should get out of bed each and every morning looking forward to the tasks at hand. You need to consider your strengths and tailor your Internet business to them.
This is not to say that the entrepreneur needs to be or should be a workaholic. On the contrary, once a business gets going and really starts to thrive it can continue in the absence of its founder quite comfortably if it is well operated. However, when you are first starting a business, you need to make sure you are choosing the business for the right reasons: it is an Internet business that not only interests you, but inspires you.
You also need to make sure that you are choosing a business that can make money. A common myth pertaining to small businesses, perpetrated by mothers everywhere, is that anyone can make any small business succeed. This is not true. No matter how inspired you are, and no matter how much you play to your strengths in founding your business, you must also choose a market that can and will support you, or you are doomed to fail. For a small business, this usually means finding a niche market that works for you.
