Website design is the creation and layout of web pages that inclusively make up a website. The website, of course, is a collection of information about a certain topic or subject. Website design can somewhat be compared to writing a book, in that each page of a website is like a page in a book. There are many things that must run smoothly together to have a successful website design.

Website design has many parts to the process, and new aspects are emerging in website design constantly. The basic aspects of website design are content, appearance, visibility, and usability. Content of a website design is the information that is on the site that targets the audience that the information is concerned with. The appearance of a website design is the graphics and text that mesh together to look professional and appealing to the audience. Visibility of a website design is very important; the website has to be easy to find on search engines, or no one will visit the website. The usability of a website design should be user friendly with simple navigation. There shouldnt be too many flashing, moving, or animated images on the pages of a web site design, because these things cause pages to load slowly, which is annoying to the viewer.

The home page of a website design is the first page of the website. Some sites use something called a splash page, which includes a welcome message or disclaimer of some sort. Each web page in the website design is an HTML file with its own URL. When each page of a website is created, they are linked together using hyperlinks. Once a website design is completed it has to be submitted or published in order to be seen by the public on the Internet. This can be done using an FTP client. Once the website design is published, the web master can increase the hits that the website receives. In order to get more traffic and higher positions on search engine result pages, a website design should submit the website to a search engine and create affiliations and links with other websites.

A website design is a system of information with different pieces, and those pieces are known as front end and back end. The viewable content, like the graphics, text, and audio, is known as the front end. The back end of a website design includes the components that are behind the scenes such as scripted functions, source code, and the server side components.
