If you have ever watched Star Wars you probably remember how the Force was used to talk people into doing things or accepting things. Just by lifting up the hand Obi Wan Kenobi was able to tell people exactly what to think. This is fiction of course, but by using conversational hypnosis you are able to do much of the same things. You do not even have to lift your hand.
How Does Conversational Hypnosis Work?
There are no magic or occult practices involved in the art of conversational hypnosis. The concept is about using tested strategies and manipulation techniques to convince other that what you say is the truth. The principles of convert hypnosis were first discovered by world known hypnotist Milton Erickson. He discovered that people fall into trance several times a day. When working on the computer, concentrating, reading and what not.
What Milton Erickson discovered was that he was able to use this trance like situations to enter into the mind of his prospects. He was then able to turn them into his way of thinking. He was able to remove their resistance towards the suggestion he was about to present. He also discovered that he could use rapport and confusion to get people into this trance like state and then be able to use conversational hypnosis to change their way of thinking. Rapport, confusion and indirection suggestions are the basic elements of conversational hypnosis.
Rapport: We all have tried to strike rapport with people around us. Rapport can be defined as entering into an agreement mode with the other party. For example if you are talking to someone and he says, "This is not the way" then you need to agree with the person and acknowledge that he is right.
By building rapport you help your subject to relax. You become a part of his team and it becomes much easier to influence his thoughts.
Confusion: When using confusion in conversational hypnosis your goal is to get the subject to go to you for advice. He gets unsure about the thing he is talking about and turns to you for an answer. Getting a subject into confusion can be as simple as saying "are you sure there are no better ways to do this?"
Suggestion: When you have established rapport and you have used confusion to get your subject to go to you for an answer it is your time to strike. Now it is your time to suggest a better way to handle the situation. You want to do this indirectly to make the subject think that he thought it out himself.
Conversational hypnosis is a great tool to direct people towards implementing your way of thinking. This is especially true if your way of thinking is helpful for them as well.
