Do you know how soothing and comforting touch can be? Of course you do! You have experienced it yourself so many times through your life. When you're depressed or miserable, doesn't the touch of a child's hand or the weight of a baby in your arms ease the unpleasantness? Touch can perk you up; dissipating the effects of stress and making your mind and body relax and feel better.
A simple touch can re-awaken the feeling of happiness and a sense of belonging, especially for particular individuals such as senior citizens who live alone, or those who are confined to nursing homes.
The sense of touch not only relaxes, but it can also heal.
On the other hand, for those people that work on computers all day long, receiving a neck and back massage can have an immediate effect. Even though you may begin the massage feeling rather tense, you will soon find yourself sinking into the chair as your tension begins to disperse.
You may be in a situation whereby you are having a heated conversation at home. A child can come and touch your hand and you immediately cease the conversation and forget what the reason was for fighting in the first place.
Pet owners also enjoy the benefits of relaxation by stroking, cuddling, and spending time with their pets. You can be in the worst mood, but when you come home and your pet is jumping with excitement as you walk in the door and you have that first touch, all of the worries of the day go away. Now you can relax.
Let's be honest, we all need a cuddle now and then. The way you feel is changed completely whether that cuddle comes from a spouse, a child, a sister, or a friend, also changing your attitude. Releasing the inner child in us and cuddling ourselves can not only sometimes make us feel better, but place us in a state of relaxation.
Children who are taken to a petting zoo for the first time derive a great deal of pleasure touching different animals. The textures of different animals are new to them and they giggle with joy.
The human touch can ease tension, calm emotions, heal pain and comfort in times of trouble. A touch can be amatory, or even the kind of touch that makes people feel better about themselves and be ready to share their thoughts.
It is the touch of a child that can make a grumpy old man smile; it is the touch of a friend that can create a comfort zone in which one is relaxed enough to share feelings; it is a mother's touch that can relax a crying child into a peaceful state of slumber.
