Learning to speak Spanish can also have very positive impact on your career and success in business. Bilingual English and Spanish speakers are finding that the demand for their skills is increasing in today's business world. The ability to communicate more effectively with co-workers, clients, customers and employees will be enhanced by many of those who have a knowledge of the Spanish language.

Speaking Spanish is also becoming more important in business and career matters. People who are bilingual in English and Spanish are in increasing demand in the market place. Knowledge of Spanish will enable you to more effectively communicate with co-workers, clients, customers and employees who speak Spanish as their native tongue.

Recent marketing studies conclude that in North America, the Hispanic population of customers is the most rapidly growing segment of the market, which has many companies scrambling to attract and accommodate the Spanish speaking crowd. This further enhances the value of learning Spanish.

This also means that learning Spanish can be a real boon to your career in terms of advancement or in the area of career choices. More and more often, listing that you can speak Spanish on your resume can make the difference between getting noticed or being passed over. In the United States, knowing how to speak Spanish is particularly helpful if you are in education, health care or any of the building trades.

Current estimates are that over 40 percent of the US population increase today is in the Hispanic portion of the population resulting in over thirty-five million Spanish speaking US citizens. The benefits of learning to speak Spanish will continue to increase over time as this segment of the population continues to increase. The people who take the time and make the effort to become bilingual in Spanish will have a clear advantage over English only speakers in the near future with the increase in globalization and free-trade between the US and other countries in Central and South America.

The popularity of learning Spanish as a second language is growing not only in the US but also in many other countries of the world. As a second language, Spanish is the second most studied language, after English, in Europe. Native Spanish speakers exceed 400 million people worldwide making it the third most widely spoken native language, following Mandarin and Hindi. Considering the widespread use of Spanish and the rapid growth rate of the Hispanic sector of the population in the US, one can readily see that learning Spanish as a second language could be a wise choice

It is also a certainty that Spanish will help to expand your universe of experiences and people. With the continued growth of the Hispanic population, it will become increasingly likely that you will have more interactions with people from the Hispanic community. For example, you or a relative might marry into a Hispanic family, you might have Spanish speaking families in your neighborhood, have Hispanic employers or employees, or simply have more interactions with Spanish speaking people in the routine course of your day. I know I do.

I recently became acutely aware of the benefits of speaking a second language when my son married into a trilingual family that speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese fluently. They can travel with ease anywhere in the Western Hemisphere as well as many other parts of the world and be easily understood.

If you are interested in having a fuller understanding of the unique and rich heritage of the Hispanic people, learning Spanish is an excellent way to do that. World culture has been greatly enriched by the contributions of artists, writers, architects, musicians and others over the centuries who herald from Hispanic roots. Add to that the wonders of the rich and flavorful food that come to us from Spanish speaking communities, and there is even more reason to embrace the Spanish language and culture.
