Plastic or cosmetic surgeons are the only ones licensed to do breast reduction surgery. Breast reduction surgery is basically a procedure that allows you to reduce the size of your breasts by undergoing liposuction and breast reshaping. Many people who want to have their breast size reduced go through this procedure, though many shy away from it because of the disadvantages that come along with it.
Though breast reduction is a very effective procedure, there are a number of disadvantages. The procedure is quite expensive as it can cost from three thousand to six thousand dollars, depending on how major the reduction is. The surgery procedure is also painful as all surgeries can be, and takes quite some time to heal. When recovering from the surgery, there are many discomforts that you can undergo. This includes bleeding, skin infections, ugly scars, and other discomforts that can come out days after the procedure. This is why many hesitate to have breast reduction done no matter how excellent the results may be after.
Because of the delicate nature of the procedure, breast reduction should be performed only by qualified breast reduction specialists. These specialists, also called cosmetic or plastic surgeons, undergo extensive training and education to be able to perform the surgery.
The necessary requirements to be able to practice this kind of surgery are extensive training, education and experience in the field. After intensive studies to become a physician, breast reduction specialists are required to attend four years of post-graduate residency training in any accredited surgery schools. After these four years of intensive study and training, they should be able to pass a comprehensive examination that will give them their license to practice.
If you are a possible candidate for breast reduction, look for a breast reduction specialist that already has an extensive portfolio. Check the credentials, and ask around for feedback from people who have already has the surgery performed on them by the same specialist. Remember, breast reduction surgery is not something to be taken lightly, so choose your specialist-and choose it well.
