Ever wondered why customers prefer a certain gift shop to another? The answer is not as complicated as you may think. Firstly, make sure that you stock up on nothing else but gifts, that way you are sending out the message that you are nothing but a gift shop and you will create a customer base and a name for you shop. Take for instance, where would you go to buy a new radio? To the electrical shop of course! At the same time a radio can be a gift, but not in your shop!
Now, you ask yourself, what kind of gifts should I stock up on then? Well, why would people buy gifts in the first place?
The general reason is to send a message across to someone, whatever the message and the easiest way is in writing. So you need to make sure that you have a wide range of cards in your shop. These should range from season specific cards to general greeting cards. Humorous, classic and romantic cards should all be there. These days there are now musical cards so your shop should also be in touch with the latest trends as this will make customers think of your shop first before going to another as they know you will have whatever is new on the market. You need to remember to stock up on season specific cards such as Christmas cards as the season approaches so as to avoid running out, and buying in bulk from your supplier will also reduce costs!
After the cards, keep the theme of gifts in mind, which is to send a message across. Now you can stock up on whatever utensils or gadgets you may like but make sure they carry a certain message, for example you can stock up on cups written birthday messages or any other messages, scarfs, t-shirts, underwear etc. Just make sure that most of whatever you buy will bear a certain message.
After the gift has been bought, it will have to be wrapped up, so you also need to stock up on attractive wrapping paper for your clients. It’s also worth noting that common gifts such as jewellery should always be present in your shop as that type of gift is a favourite for many.
Don't forget to have music and air-conditioning in your shop as this improves the atmosphere for shopping!
