Okay, so you may never get to meet Meryl Streep, Ron Howard, Cybill Shepherd, Larry Csonka, Danny Glover, Meg Ryan, or Captain Kirk (a.k.a. William Shatner) in person. But you can stay at the very same bed and breakfast inns that they stayed at, and have just as good a time as they did!
Maine's restful Inn at Long Lake is a favorite haunt of actress Meryl Streep and her daughters. Located in Naples, Maine, this 1900s-era Victorian B&B inn features graceful veranda appointed with wicker chairs with beautiful views of Long Lake. Once inside, you'll find stained glass windows, period antiques, fresh flowers, and a wonderful collection of old clocks. The Inn at Long Lake has 16 rooms, each decorated with Victorian-themed floral wallpaper and antique furniture. Find out for yourself why Meryl Streep is a repeat visitor!
When in Baltimore, do as director Ron Howard does, and stay at Grammercy Mansion. Each of the elegant guest rooms is decorated with antiques. The Tudor Room is fit for a king with a massive canopy bed and fireplace, a porch with a view of the surrounding valley, and a spacious bath with a whirlpool tub. The Camelot Room is another posh choice with a king bed, whirlpool tub and Juliet balcony where guests can enjoy breakfast. Weddings are a popular event at Grammercy Mansion, and the innkeepers also offer romantic elopement packages.
After a busy day exploring Washington, D.C., there is no better place to relax and unwind than at the Swann House B&B. Located in Dupont Circle, the historic inn has 12 guest rooms, each individually decorated. Some feature fireplaces or whirlpool tubs. Cybil Shepherd was once a guest, and you'll bask in the same star treatment she enjoyed as you sleep on a feather mattress with sateen sheets and down pillows or sip champagne as you feast on a gourmet breakfast. Shops and restuarants are just steps away , and you are just minutes from all of the Capitol's many attractions.
For the guys, why not follow in the footsteps of NFL great Larry Csonka and visit the Bent Creek Lodge in Asheville North Carolina? This bed & breakfast is a secluded mountainside retreat with easy access to fishing, biking, horseback riding, and canoeing; all the kinds of activities that a 'real man' thrives on. As well, the Bent Creek Lodge's second floor rooms open out onto a wide veranda, with great mountain views. Add rustic furniture and a true 'down-home' feeling, and you can see why this NFL Hall of Famer and avid outdoorsman stays at the Bent Creek Lodge. Perhaps the guys can stay here, while the girls live it up at Swann House!
With its country charm and great food, it's no wonder that guests such as actor Danny Glover feel right at home at the Apple Country Bed and Breakfast in Wenatchee, Washington. From the apple-named guest rooms, such as the Fuji or Golden Delicious, to the plentiful breakfasts, guests will find the cozy bed and breakfast a great place to relax after a day of skiing, biking or hiking. The Washington State Apple Blossom Festival is a popular event each May, and there are several local wineries to visit, as well.
She may have been sleepless in Seattle, but you can bet that Meg Ryan slept just fine in the guest rooms at the Aaron Burr House Inn & Conference Center. William Shatner also is among the other celebrity guests that have enjoyed a stay. The picturesque 1873 Victorian boasts guest rooms decorated with antiques and featuring walls hand painted and stenciled by an area artisan. The inn was built on the foundation of an earlier, 18th century home. Aaron Burr hid in the original home after his duel with Alexander Hamilton. Today's guests enjoy a less stressful visit, no doubt.
