In the previous article, we discussed the first three principles of stewardship as taught by Jesus Christ in Mathew 25:14-27. In part 2 of this two part series we will be discussing the last 4 principles. Should you wish to view the article in it's entirety, visit my blog.

4.) THE PRINCIPLE OF ACCOUNTABILITY - We can see in verses 19 to 25 of our text that each servant was accountable how he handled the goods entrusted to him.

Pay day may not come today, but it will surely come someday. The servants never knew when the Master was coming. One day we are all going to give an account to God on what we did with the stewardship that he has entrusted to us.

5.) PRINCIPLE OF PROFIT - Each servant was required to gain (verse 26)

Each of us is required by God to at least "Profit" from the stewardship that he has given us. We are to make the best of our lives. God wants us to live a life that bears fruit. It does not mean that we are to live lives that are free from diseases, financial, emotional or any kind of problems. What God wants is we are to live a life that is full. Scripture is replete with verses admonishing Christians to bear fruit (John 15:16) Fruit does not only refer to the souls of men. It also refers to the development of godliness and Christian Character such as the Fruit of the Spirit as enumerated by the apostle Paul in Galatians chapter 5 verse 22. We are to live our lives daily giving our best always for the glory of God.

6.) FAIRNESS - Verses 20 to 23 shows us that the same commendation and reward were given to all servants irregardless of how many talents they had gained.

Whether or not we have a lot of gifts, or a lot of abilities or whatever our economic status in life is, each and everyone of us are equal before God. Those who are very famous as others sees them or have done great things and his made an impact on this world gets the same reward as those who are only known in their local churches but has at the same did their best and lived their life to the best of their abilities as God wants them to live.

7.) PUNISHMENT - The servant who did not utilize the talent that was entrusted to him suffered penalties. The penalty was that the talent that was given to him was taken away. He was even rejected as a servant. What is worse is that he was killed or cast into outer darkness.

Be advised that the last part of the parable does not teach us that we will loose our salvation if we fail to produce good works or if we fail to live our to the fullest as God wants. The Bible is very clear that once a person is saved, he is saved forever. What the last part of the parable is telling us is that a person who profess that he is a Christian but lives a life that does not bear any fruit nor does he even attempt to live a life as God intended for him to live is not saved at all. He may appear be a Christian but the truth is, deep inside he has never experienced what it means to be truly saved. This people will someday face the truth. They thought they are christians because they have gone through the religious exercise. But sadly in eternity they will finally discover that they really were not who they believed they were.
