Suffolk residents are on the move, and we’re talking about the feathered variety. Suffolk has an abundance of fantastic bird sanctuaries, Minsmere, Dunwich, Havergate Island, Wolves Wood. Landguard and Timley Marshes to name a few, and it’s this time of year where the residents are getting restless for their great migration south for the winter. Equally, we expect to play host to those seeking refuge in the UK from the cold Arctic winter. Migrant wading birds continue to pass through, including curlew sandpipers, little stints and ruffs. Winter wildfowl return, with teal numbers increasing rapidly. Brent geese move south from late September. The first Bewick's swans arrive in late October. Large starling flocks gather to roost in the reedbeds. Swallows and house martins flock together before departing

As Autumn approaches much of the heath-land is on the change. Dunwich Heath, Suffolk, is a great place for all the family, where you can experience wonderful walks across the heath, keeping your eyes peeled for butterflies, birds and insects.

As Nature lovers, you can choose from hundreds of wildlife sites in Suffolk, and to make sure that there’s something for everyone, Suffolk also has an array of other fascinating places to visit. There’s a 12th century castle at Framlingham and numerous sites across the county that tell the fascinating story of Suffolk’s contribution to British aviation and military.

The Suffolk Wool Town of Lavenham has a history steeped in the cloth trade and is a fascinating market town where the streets are lined with half-timbered buildings, some dating from the 14th and 15th century.

For that bit of luxury after spending all day touring the wonderful sites of Suffolk, in the town of Lavenham you will find The Swan Hotel, with it’s 4 star rating it offers a blend of 15th Century heritage and 21st century comfort, and it makes a perfect base for touring. For those that appreciate fine dining, the restaurant boasts two AA Rosettes for its fine food.
