After graduating from high school, you may find writing a college research paper a bit difficult. First, you must remember that academic writing is a scholarly activity. A college is consist of groups of scholars learning and exploring complex scholarly ideas. As a college student, you need to think about academic topics and issues. You also need to debate in the context of the academe and write academically. To succeed in college, you must learn academic writing, which involves presenting and discussing issues in a formal, written report.
Always remember that a college research paper is strictly academic. Don't write about your crushes or how your pet is doing. You should only choose topics that are of interest to the academic community. To get some ideas on what to write about, listen to your professors when they give class lectures. Professors usually discuss important topics when they're giving lectures. One way to see if a piece of writing is academic is to ask fellow scholars about it. If they find it interesting, then it is academic. However, if it only interests, say, your friends in your neighborhood, then the paper is not academic enough.
Your college research paper should have informed arguments. Learn to research and organize your materials and sources, and then write them in a formal manner. The paper should support a stand and sufficiently explain an issue. Formal language is a strict requirement in research papers. You can't use slang and other informal forms of communication. A college research paper also has credible pieces of information. You must properly cite the sources of your information. Don't use unreliable sources, such as an Internet forum or a book of fiction.
