Congratulations on making the decision to get testimonials. So many people try to sell goods or services (particularly online) without any at all. This is a huge mistake and means they're probably losing out on many sales. But you already know that, which is why you're reading this article.
Here are the top 7 techniques to getting some:
1) Ask - why not? Just try asking some of your existing clients. If you don't you may not ever get one. Please don't believe all testimonials are unsolicited. That's simply not the case and it's not a problem to ask for them. If asking for a testimonial bothers you then call it feedback, and ask for that instead! The result will be the same.
2) Try giving out some free copies in return for a review. When your product is new your sales could suffer if you don't have testimonials. But because it is new no-one will have bought it, so giving some away for free, in return for their comments is a great alternative.
3) Just make it part of the agreement. If you make it clear that you need feedback from all your customers, once they buy, then you don't even need to ask. If it's a great product they will be more than willing to provide positive feedback. You should tell them why you want their comments of course and then there will be no misunderstandings.
4) Offer a bonus. Let's make something perfectly clear right hereyou should never bribe anyone for their testimonial. It's just not ethical and could get you into a lot of trouble. There are certain lines that you should never cross is this is one of them. Offering a complimentary bonus for anyone who completes a 'feedback' form can be extremely effective, however and won't get you into any trouble.
5) Get some beta-testers. How do you think a brand new product still has some great testimonials? Well of course the product developer will have used his relationship with current clients. They'll be more than happy to give a positive review in exchange for the opportunity to try out the product or service.
6) Use Pay Per Click adverts. If you run an online business but don't have any clients yet, why not drive some fresh traffic to your site, with pay per click adverts and offer a complimentary copy of your product in return for feedback? A carefully worded ad should weed out the time wasters and for very little cost you get targeted visitors keen to try your products.
7) A Competition. This is my favorite way to get testimonials. Just imagine having a weight loss product and every month giving away a prize to the person who lost the most. You would be overwhelmed by the number of people getting in touch telling you how much they'd lost since using your new product or reading your book. You would never be short of great testimonials ever again.
Now you know how to get testimonials. There really should be nothing stopping you getting some and including them in all your marketing materials.
